Barbados is the most eastern island in the Caribbean. Barados has a population of about 260,000. The Island gained independence from Britainan 1966.

Barbados has one airport, the Grantley Adams international airport. The airport is in the south of the island and is 16 kms from Bridgetown, the capital. 4 hours behind GMT.

Areas to Visit on a Barbados Holiday

One of the last significant wildlife habitats in Barbados is the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary which is a part of the Graeme Hall Swamp National Environmental Heritage Site.

Ocean park is unique with some great Caribbean marine life to see. There are also 4X4 safari tours of the island, as well as a turtle and shipwreck adventures.

The most popular resorts are in the west coasts, while the east coast is good for surfing. The south coast and a little further round is the silver sands, beaches are good here and the prices are more affordable, silver sands is hood for windsurfing.

The east coast is popular with the locals. Many water sports are available and the national sport of cricket is often played. There is two golf courses and there are a number of events held throughout the year, there are a lot of street parades, music and celebrations, especially held between July and August.
